What is NAU Web Development Bootcamp?
It is a 10-week, fully immersive program offered at the NAU Lewisville campus located in the Dallas, Texas metro area. This full-time program provides education on full-stack web development and is taught by knowledgeable instructors through hands-on training with relevant tools, languages, and frameworks.

The bootcamp currently offered by NAU at its Lewisville campus is Web Application Development. As the program grows, other bootcamps may become available.

Are food and lodging provided during the 10-week course?
With the exception of coffee, soft drinks, and some snacks, neither food nor lodging (or their cost) is provided by NAU during the 10-week bootcamp; however, the Dallas metro area offers a variety of affordable options to individuals who enroll in the program.

How was the coding bootcamp curriculum designed?
The curriculum is designed to provide students with technical skills, tools, and collaborative experiences to prepare them for entry-level web developer positions.The curriculum educates students on front and back end developing, as well as code management.

The number of students in each cohort is determined by a number of factors; however, NAU maintains a proper teacher-to-student ratio to promote student success.

How do I attend an NAU bootcamp?
To attend the NAU bootcamp, you must first apply. We will then contact you to discuss your application and answer your questions.

What does each day of bootcamp consist of?
The typical day lasts from approximately 8:30 am to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Each day focuses on a different topic and will typically begin with the introduction of the topic for that day. After a period of instruction, students will be given individual and/or team hands-on exercises that require application and practice of the day's topic. Occasionally, guest speakers present information and provide other activities. Other events may be held in the evening to cultivate additional learning and promote networking and social interaction.

Is the bootcamp available on a part-time basis?
No. The bootcamp is a fully immersive 10-week course that requires a full-time commitment.

What will I learn?
The bootcamp is designed to provide students with the skills necessary to become entry-level web developers. Experienced instructors provide education on modern full-stack development through hands-on training, includingcreating applications and building portfolios to share with potential employers. Throughout the course, students will build upon and improve their teamwork and networking skills.

What is the difference between Java and JavaScript?
Java and JavaScript are very distant cousins. Java is an Object Oriented Programming language and JavaScript (initially known as LiveScript) is a scripting language, created by Netscape. Java needs to be compiled and creates applications that are run in a virtual machine, whereas JavaScript is code in text that can be run on a browser.

What is the bootcamp format?
The essentials of web development are the focal point of the bootcamp. Since this full-time course requires other obligations to be put aside or replaced for 10 weeks, we strive to deliver information in a way that maximizes knowledge retention in as little time as possible.

What if I have never programmed before?
Everyone has to start somewhere. We do ask individuals to dabble (at least 20 hours) with coding on their own to create a foundation and to determine if you have the spark for web development. Applicants should possess intelligence, problem-solving skills, perseverance, communication skills, and a willingness to learn.

Is there any pre-work required before the bootcamp starts?
Yes. After enrolling, you will receive information about the 40 to 50 hours of pre-work required before the bootcamp begins.

Am I required to provide a computer?
We highly encourage you to bring your own computer, since you will be more comfortable learning on it. Ideally, your device should be no more than 3 years old. We require the most updated version of Chrome be installed on your device. If you are unable to provide your own computer, a computer will be provided for your use; however, you will not be able to remove it from the classroom.

Is there any type of co-working space offered during the course?
Yes. Current students and recent NAU graduates are able to use NAU's facilities for educational and support services.

How does this fit with my current NAU degree program?
This non-credit program is full-time and fully immersive, so balancing other schedules (full-time work or other school schedules) would not be possible.

What type of certification or accreditation is offered?
After successfully completing all program requirements, students of the bootcamp will will receive a certificate of completion.

How high is the demand for coders and developers?
It does not appear that advances in technology will be slowing down anytime soon. The digital world is growing at a rapid pace and so is the demand for web developers.
